2014 Mazda6 Heads to World’s Most Well-Known Billboard

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced its first ever billboard advertisement in New York’s famed Times Square. Nearly 105 years after the first New Year’s Eve ball dropped at what was then called Times Tower, the 2014 Mazda6 will be a significant feature of the celebratory festivities at One Times Square. More than 117 million people are expected to see the 16,000-plus square-foot billboard, which will show a combination of running and still images of the all-new vehicle starting on December 19, 2012, and running until March 31, 2013.

“The all-new 2014 Mazda6 is the most technologically advanced vehicle we have ever sold,” said Russell Wager, vice president of marketing, MNAO. “To introduce this vehicle to the U.S. in the biggest possible way, we chose the most notable and iconic city in the world. And to have the unique opportunity to access the tallest LED billboard in Times Square is the perfect way to tell the Mazda story.”

2013 MX-5 Miata: Car & Driver 10Best, Again!

Mazda Considering Minicar Market

According to Ichiro Hirose, Mazda Europe’s research and development vice-president, stated that Mazda is “interested in the premium sub-B class, and we could have a car launched within the next two or three years”.

Mazda had designs on dueling the MINI Cooper and similarly-sized vehicles dating back as far as 2008. The growing market for small, city-savvy cars has only increased Mazda’s drive. Mazda’s Kiyora concept car never made it to production, but the Mazda2 was welcomed warmly in the small car market. With the subcompact’s release under their belts, is Mazda ready for a smaller step?

Mazda RX-7 Could Return in 2017

Good news for rotary enthusiasts: Mazda’s late RX-7 may be returning to the market! The legendary Mazda vehicle is rumored for a 2017 return, based on comments by Mazda sports car boss Nobuhiro Yamamoto.

There’s good cause for optimism, too. The Rotary Engine will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary in 2017, an event deserving the rev-savvy powerhouse’s return. Yamamoto reportedly claimed that a 16X rotary engine was developed in 2007, but has yet to find a place in any production model.

2013 Mazda CX-9 World Premiere

Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the refreshed Mazda CX-9 crossover SUV at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show.

Held in Sydney, the 2012 Australian International Motor Show begins October 18 and runs through to October 28, 2012. The 2013 CX-9 will be launched in Australia later this year.

Mazda Hosts 2012 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

Mazda RacewayThe 2012 running of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, held annually at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, took place in the hills near the picturesque seaside town of Monterey. As a company with a near-unrivaled heritage of motorsport success, as well as the only Asian car company to ever win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Mazda participated in this year’s event with three significant vehicles from its heritage collection, a 1990 Mazda 787 Group C, a 1991 Mazda RX-7 IMSA GTO and a 1992 Mazda RX-792P IMSA GTP.

The GTP car set the pace for the first day of the event, achieving the fastest time in race groups 6B, GTP, and C. The GTO finished the single on-track session for group 6B in fourth place, behind only three ground-effects GTP cars.
