Mazda Considering Minicar Market

According to Ichiro Hirose, Mazda Europe’s research and development vice-president, stated that Mazda is “interested in the premium sub-B class, and we could have a car launched within the next two or three years”.

Mazda had designs on dueling the MINI Cooper and similarly-sized vehicles dating back as far as 2008. The growing market for small, city-savvy cars has only increased Mazda’s drive. Mazda’s Kiyora concept car never made it to production, but the Mazda2 was welcomed warmly in the small car market. With the subcompact’s release under their belts, is Mazda ready for a smaller step?

Mazda RX-7 Could Return in 2017

Good news for rotary enthusiasts: Mazda’s late RX-7 may be returning to the market! The legendary Mazda vehicle is rumored for a 2017 return, based on comments by Mazda sports car boss Nobuhiro Yamamoto.

There’s good cause for optimism, too. The Rotary Engine will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary in 2017, an event deserving the rev-savvy powerhouse’s return. Yamamoto reportedly claimed that a 16X rotary engine was developed in 2007, but has yet to find a place in any production model.

2014 Mazda6 to Introduce “i-ACTIVSENSE”

Mazda Motor Corporation will incorporate “i-ACTIVSENSE” technologies into the all-new Mazda6 to be launched later this year. i-ACTIVSENSE is a series of Mazda’s advanced safety technologies designed to aid the driver in recognizing hazards, avoiding collisions and reducing the severity of accidents when they cannot be avoided.
At Mazda, the research and development of safety technology is based upon the company’s safety philosophy, Mazda Proactive Safety, which aims to minimize the risk of an accident by maximizing the range of conditions in which the driver can safely operate the vehicle.
